Glasgow Clyde College has selected Instructure’s Canvas VLE as its institution-wide Learning Management Platform, to replace legacy software from Moodle. Glasgow Clyde College joins more than 40 UK colleges that are now using Canvas to support their strategic institutional goals.
The cloud-native, flexible, and scalable platform will help the college deliver on its mission to provide a truly blended learning provision, where technology is integrated throughout all courses to develop independent, digitally literate, and work-ready students.
The implementation of Canvas promises to transform the College’s approach to digital teaching and learning and realise significant, measurable, and lasting positive impacts on staff, students, potential students, and the wider community’s learning outcomes.
Crucially, the project will engage with all teaching staff, providing opportunities for them to enhance their digital abilities and giving them the confidence and support needed to deliver an engaging curriculum that prepares students for the digital age.
Niall Hardie, eLearning Manager at Glasgow Clyde College says: “While there are many pockets of digital excellence in the college, the reality is that many staff feel anxious and under-skilled when using digital tools. Switching to a new platform will provide us with the lever we need to get alongside teaching staff and enable them to build the confidence and competence to deliver excellence in their learning, teaching, and assessments.”
David Marshall, Assistant Principal Student Experience added: “Our partnership with Instructure will provide us with a world-class platform which will engage staff and students in digital learning. Our staff are passionate about the enhancement of the student experience and they will now be fully supported by an intuitive, mobile-first platform which will meet the needs of our students and stakeholders.”
Glasgow Clyde’s decision to re-evaluate its platform represents a wider trend across the further education (FE) landscape, where forward-thinking colleges are finding that legacy platforms struggle to support the modern pedagogy they aim to deliver. Upon review, many colleges are turning towards platforms like Canvas to help them deliver on their strategic institutional goals, as well as providing a future proof solution which will scale and evolve alongside their needs.
The news also follows the first year anniversary of the partnership between Instructure and the Blended Learning Consortium (BLC), which sets out to drive more effective digital learning for FE Colleges across the UK. Together, Instructure and the BLC are working to grow a community who can work together to share resources, best practice and use smart technology to engage their learners.
