Making an Impact Panel

Dr. Jessica Higdon is the Director of the Center for Excellence and Innovation in Teaching, Learning, and Distance Education (CEITL & DE)  and the Assistant Provost for Teaching and Learning at The Citadel- The Military College of South Carolina. Before joining the Citadel Dr. Higdon was a high school social studies teacher in South Carolina and New Jersey for almost 20 years. Dr. Higdon has an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Liberty University, an Ed.S. in Learning Technology and Design with a focus on Technology in Schools from the University of Missouri (Columbia), an Online Graduate Certificate in Online Education, from the University of Missouri (Columbia), a M.A.T. in Secondary Education, and a B.A . in History both from Fairleigh Dickinson University (Madison).

Dr. Shelley Howell is currently the Director of Faculty Development for Online Programs at The University of Texas at San Antonio. She works directly with UTSA faculty who are designing or refreshing their online courses to help them create amazing learning experiences for their students. Dr. Howell has more than 30 years of experience working with students and faculty from a variety of academic disciplines and settings, including public universities, for-profit institutions and state-level administration. She has taught college students at all levels from first year to doctorate and in different modalities (including online and hybrid) at four different higher education institutions. 

Dr. Howell is first-generation college student and earned an Associate of Arts from State Fair Community College in Missouri, a Bachelor of Science degree in training and development from Southern Illinois University, a Master of Education in adult education from University of Oklahoma, and a doctorate in higher education administration from Oklahoma State University.

Lené has been a contributing member of the Foothill College community in many capacities since 2008, early on as a communications faculty member, and then with the California Virtual Campus-Online Education Initiative (CVC-OEI) as the Faculty Professional Development Coordinator for Instructional Development. In her role with the CVC-OEI, she provided training and professional development to support the effective use of digital tools and platforms for the 114 California Community Colleges. Her work with @ONE, the professional development division of CVC-OEI, contributed to @ONE becoming a nationally recognized leader in online teaching and learning.
