Canvas Student Voices: Stephen - UTS
After Stephen decided to return to school and pursue a master’s degree, it was a happy surprise to learn that through Canvas, learning entirely online is easy and accessible.
My name is Steven. I'm a dad. I'm a teacher. I'm a volunteer, and I'm a student at UTS. My goal is to, immerse myself in a career in public health, and Canvas is the enabler for that, really. It's just it's the pathway on which I travel, and, you know, it it fits perfectly to what my needs are.
As a parent, it's nice to be around when they're home. It's nice to be around when they need things, and during the school holidays, being flexible. You know, I can take the dog for a walk and do my study on the beach. I mean, it's a luxury. Yes.
I have to work because I'm a school teacher and I have to be in the classroom, and and, yes, I do have to do other things. Fitting my study within that is is is an opportunity. I can do that. One of the things I really like about the the this platform is that it's really logically laid out. You know, there's my module one, and there's my sort of sixteen or eight things that I need to do through there.
There's gonna be links to readings. There might be some videos. There might be some podcasts. There might be, like a little Padlet where I have to write a reflection or something like that. I guess I appreciate the fact that I don't have to sort of log in and sort of open up new tabs and set up new, you know, new user accounts for all that sort of business, all kind of built in.
Makes it a lot easier. I put off studying for ages, maybe, you know, twelve years. I I wanted to do a master's, and I didn't know that doing it entirely online, could be, you know, engaging, like, socially engaging and, you know, intellectually engaging, creatively engaging, which is a bit of a which is a happy surprise. You know? You don't really expect that when you study. I recommend studying.
I think the the the Canvas platform makes it really easy. It gives me the opportunity to do it at my own pace and, in a in a fun and creative way, and I think that's, takes the edge off. It's not scary. It's it's something, I think, something anything, anyone can do.
