ArchBishop McCarthy High School
Archbishop McCarthy launched a 1:1 initiative and the school chose Canvas as its new learning management system. See how Canvas supports Archbishop McCarthy's mission.
Kids today want technology, and that's our school. We are technology, we are technology. We've got a lot of athletes on that we've become an iPad school. One of the 13 most innovative catholic schools schools in the country. We also named one of the top 50 Catholic schools in the country. With the iPad we wanted to be able to leverage the most out of it.
That's where canvas really brought everything into one place. We knew we needed something and canvas really like did everything we wanted. Like it was like a gift from God that helped us to become fully digital. Canvas allowed teachers to have a digital classroom that felt comfortable that was easy to use. And so they're able to become that digital teacher and to be able to speak our student language because this is our students language.
And once Canvas came in full force one hundred percent through the school. All the teachers were bought in. All the teachers were excited. I mean we were getting stopped down the hallway saying I love Canvas! I know I'm a nerd but I think it's just such a life changing and classroom changing, thing. By basically was a type of teacher that would write on the board and write everything out.
And then I would stand and watch the kids copy down my notes for the next 10 15 minutes. And then I'd give an example. And we had about 30 seconds to talk about it. And I was like the total misuse of time. They're spending so much time on the prep work and not really understanding how to apply it.
Canvas just makes it so seamless. They walk in my room and I'm like right go on Canvas give the notes for today and it's five seconds. I've got it downloaded. They've got open. They're ready to go.
The whole dynamic of my classroom has changed. My test scores are higher. My student involvement is higher. I think technology is their world. I think without technology you're not teaching kids how to survive in the world that they're going to be involved in.
The fact that our students use Canvas in high school and then they're shipped off into the real world of college is a huge benefit for them. One of the first things I got from a student alumni they sent me an e-mail and said guess what app I just downloaded and it was Canvas. And they were so excited that we gave them that exposure. And as a college prep school the fact that we're giving them that type of experience we feel like is is definitely beneficial. Canvas has been really incredible for us as a school just tying everything in giving us that ability to communicate to teachers parents students. Canvas is pretty awesome like no lie.
