California Community College Virtual Campus (OEI)
The California Virtual Campus is a statewide online education initiative that supports the 116 California Community Colleges. The past 18 months have been full of a lot of uncertainty for our students, but it's also been a time of tremendous innovation. California is a big and diverse state. We have colleges in large urban centers. And we have colleges in really remote regions, including what's been defined as education deserts, where there's no other institution within any kind of reasonable commute distance. They have fewer staff.
They have fewer dollars. And so, these small remote colleges have grabbed on to all of the resources that CVSs provide. Having a relationship with Instructure and having deployed the Instructure learning platforms across all of our colleges, really set us up for a successful transition to remote learning with the pandemic. Everybody knew we're using Canvas. Students were familiar with it, faculty were familiar with it.
Now, there are more options for students to be able to access services, supports, and instruction. And with great help from the folks at Instructure, we walked hand in hand through the pandemic together. And we were able to accomplish more in a short amount of time than any of us could have imagined.
