Last fall, Instructure announced that the Utah Education and Telehealth Network (UETN) would provide the Canvas learning management system (LMS) to all public K–12 districts and charter schools across the state. Since that announcement, the majority of districts have adopted Canvas. The innovation continues as we have recently learned that funding has been secured for the 2018-2019 school year.
Leaders across the state were integral in helping further equal access to education for K-12 students. These advocates for education include elected officials, the Utah Rural Schools Association, the Digital Teaching and Learning Advisory Board, UETN Trainers, and the Boards and leadership of both Utah State Board of Education and UETN.
“Thanks to an ongoing appropriation from the Utah State Legislature students and teachers across the state will continue to have Canvas in the classroom,” said Executive Director Ray Timothy of the Utah Education and Telehealth Network. “Having an easy to use, intuitive LMS further facilitates the state’s Digital Teaching and Learning Initiative and ensures that no matter where you are in the state, you have access to educational tools and a great teaching and learning environment.”
Through open, usable, cloud-based technologies, Canvas enables easy integration of the content, tools and services that teachers need and students want. Canvas is a usable, customizable, adaptable and reliable learning platform. It supports the point that investing in 21st century education technology improves teaching and learning for Utah’s students.
