Welcome, everyone, to our road map update for Instructure Partners. We'd like to welcome everyone that's joining us. And for those of you that will be watching the recording afterwards, welcome to this webinar in March of twenty twenty four. Firstly, I wanna introduce myself. My name is Sidhartha Oberoi. I am our new VP of partnerships here at Instructure.

For those of you that don't know me, I've been with the business for about seven years now, working in a variety of different capacities, but I've always been fond of our partners and have worked very closely with them over the years. So I'm very excited to be keeping this role on. So thank you all for having me, and looking forward to meeting you all and working more closely with you in the near future. So with that, just kinda wanna get this the show on the road. We've got myself, Christy, Kara, and Sarah, here from Instructure that will be guiding you all today, on on some of the updates that exist.

But before we dive into some of the product road map updates, I wanna take a step back and and talk about the partner network writ large and some of the changes and developments that are happening with us as as an organization. Right? And I think it would just be huev us for for all of us to take a step back and try to understand some of the dynamic challenges that exist inside of the EdTech ecosystem today. Right? And I think the best grounding of this rationale is for us to identify that, we're confronted in a world with a lot of difficult challenges that institutions both in k twelve is higher and higher ed are confronted with. Right? And you can see the list of those in in front of you on on the screen. But what we believe is we are in this together in terms of trying to identify a path forward to solve some of these challenges, where I think on the left, it very clearly indicates that educational challenges are edtech challenges at the end of the day.

And I'm so privileged to work with all of you as well as the people at Instructure to work collaboratively to try to identify how do we solve some of the pressing challenges that educators and learners across the globe are confronted with, today. Right? We know that we can't solve it these challenges alone, and we will rely upon all of our partners to help us along that journey and help us address some of those challenges as much as possible. So firstly, thank you all for being part of of the network and being part of the system and helping us crack forward with with addressing some of these critical challenges that institutions are ultimately confronted with. And we recognize that it's not easy. This is a daunting task at the end of the day.

But we really recognize that in order to understand the dynamics of the market, there is no easy way to solve them. Right? So once again, it it does boil down to doing this together and trying to identify how do we address both the business challenges that we have because that's a critical component of any of the story. Right? A lot of us are in in the nature of being for profit businesses, but recognizing that we derive the value and the passion and our missions from impacting teaching and learning in different ways. And so that kind of dictates our path forward in terms of how we approach some of the solutions collaboratively and try to demonstrate the positive outcomes that can be had, for those institutions and how we can work together to really build a foundation that can scale and meet institutions where they're at. I think all of us have probably some horror stories and some horror stories of unveiling our products into different institutions across the globe and recognizing how how wonderful of an impact we can have, but also some of the challenges that were confronted by as a byproduct of of going into some of these different institutions.

But beyond that, I think it's understanding some of the the landscape of the the world that we live in today, and some of the benefits that we derive from working together and some of the benefits that you derive from working with us. Right? We're proud to be an industry leader at Instructure. We're proud of the work that we've been able to do with institutions across the globe. The fact that our users are launching LTI or having LTI launches over four million times a day, is a testament to the work that we all collectively have done in order to deliver solutions that provide value and enable individuals to want to be part of that system, right, and want to use your tools and want to use us, Instructure as a vehicle for the distribution of those tools. I'm proud to say that our our partner network and our partner program is over nine hundred today.

I think that last count that I saw was over nine hundred and seventy five. But the reality is our definition of partners is ultimately evolving. Right? We recognize that there are so many other institutions and EdTech companies out there that we should and will be working with moving forward that may not have an integration that naturally leads into Canvas, but have other services and value that they can ultimately provide to the institutions that they work with. And I think it's about understanding how diverse that product portfolio ultimately is and how we collectively can adhere to deriving greater value downstream for the educators and learners, in the future. So I think this is maybe a new concept for for a lot of individuals that have historically been a part of our partner program.

But I think it's really good in terms of orienting how we believe our future at Instructure is going to be in terms of better collaborating with our peers and the different companies that, comprise our network. We have much more than just Canvas as a mechanism to be able to integrate with. Right? And you can see those offerings below. But it really starts with un identifying how we can build and use the different tools that exist inside of the Instructure ecosystem to be the foundation for the delivery or a delivery vehicle or the delivery of your content, your curriculum, different examinations or assessments that ultimately exist. But being able to build upon a reliable set of tools and products is one way to really extend the value that we're able to deliver.

Right? And what we've done historically is been able to white label some of these solutions and really amplify the impact that we're able to give to those institutions. Secondarily is understanding that we can help our partners really scale in a competitive market. Right? That goes back to some of the horror stories that may have existed historically in terms of identifying how do you go from supporting an institution of one thousand learners to twenty thousand to fifty thousand learners. Right? Those dynamics are radically different. And, you know, a lot of us are built on AWS, so we understand the notion of dynamic scaling.

But it's real it's understanding that you have an infrastructure that is there to ultimately support you and provide value down the road. And then lastly, it's understanding how can you improve the solutions at the end of the day. We were so lucky to be able to acquire the Learn platform solution and some of their Evidence services almost over two years ago, and it's been phenomenal to see the impact that they've been able to have on our EdTech ecosystem and the partners that exist as a part of that. Right? Being able to demonstrate the efficacy of your solutions and really understand how you can align to some of, ESSA or or ESSA related research funds in multiple contexts, really has been able to delineate some of the case studies that our partners were delivering to their their end target institutions at the end of the day. So we're really excited about this new journey and path that we're on to grow beyond just the Canvas suite of products, but also leverage some of our assessment standards, our our standards alignment tools, our item banks, as well as evidence as a service and and recognizing how all this resides in part of our, open ecosystem.

And I'm really excited that Christy and and others are gonna walk you through this, through this, later during this webinar. But I just wanna end on one final note before I join you later, is the investment that we're putting into our partner ecosystem and the platform that Instructure represents is greater now than it ever has been in the past. As you can see here, we have dedicated lines inside of our platform business unit that are ensuring and gearing up resources to allow for us to develop as well as help you grow in more sophisticated capacities than we have historically. Right? And so we have an amazing r and d team led by Christy Matstow and Kendall Chadwick. Great research team.

I can't read all the names because I don't wanna do anyone a disservice. But all of this is to showcase that there are a slew of resources behind the Instructure partner and partner ecosystem as well as platform ecosystem to ensure that all of you are successful in the future. And you'll see a lot more accountability coming from us, in terms of the value that we wanna drive and deliver to you starting with webinars us us monthly. So and we'll talk about that a little bit later. But this is the start of our journey, and we hope that you'll see more of that in the future.

With that, I'll hand it over to Christie. Alright. Thank you so much, Sid. And then before I do introductions, the the one thing I was just gonna mention, when we think about the organization and the focus to support partners, we have done a couple things. So we've organized our teams to be a lot more cohesive and unified in order to use our resources to really support your needs and partner together at at levels that you have not experienced, and we're also investing additional resources.

So Sid, has some open headcount on his team. We established a new provider go to, sales and drive team. So they'll be working with many of you on and already work with many of you to to deliver and unify the way that we're delivering that suite of products and services that Sid talked about. And then we're also adding a couple of really key, roles. Super excited that we're gonna be adding two developer relations roles to the product team.

And so we'll talk a little bit about what that will look like, and you'll see that things like the open office hours and things like, you know, like, webinars like this and interactions with you and really connecting to the product team is is a major area of focus. So, very excited about, the the work that we're doing and the journey that we're on. So, anyway, with that said, you can go back. Thank you. Christy.

So, hey, everybody. For those of you that I haven't met, and, the fun thing is that seeing this list of names, I've actually seen some of you in person in recent history. So that's pretty cool. But my name is Christy Lindell. I'm VP of product, for an area that we are calling EdTech effectiveness.

And so edtech effectiveness is really our goal is to make sure that we're enabling, teaching and learning institutions to really effectively manage and ensure that the EdTech that they're using is, producing the outcomes and the return on investment that they would expect. And we know that education is tech enabled. It it's it's here to stay. And we also know that institutions, struggle a bit, to get their arms around how they're using that EdTech, how they make adoption decisions, how they make sure that their, tools that they're using are safe, secure, reliable, integrated, accessible, and, have a an evidence base and are producing the efficacy that they would expect. And so we're here together, with all of you to make that happen.

And so we're focused, particularly right now on the product team, and our product team does, focus we do have the learn platform product and the impact product that we deliver to institutions. We also have a number of products and services that we work with partners on. So our integrations work, evidence as a service, our standards alignment work that many of you engage with. And so that's kind of the purview of our product team as well as supporting integrations, LTI, API integrations, and really, ensuring that you're getting all that integration support. So with that, we're focused in three main areas.

Sorry, I said you can keep going. Number one is we wanna make sure that in the platform, we are activating the most used and useful EdTech library so your tools can be discovered. Your tools have the right information in your profiles, that decisions can be quickly and easily made, and that the installation and management, particularly of LTI LTI tools in the platform, are as efficient and easy as possible. We are definitely amping up our support for LTI one point three, so we'll talk a little bit more about that. And then, really, our goal is we want to be the most compelling place for you to want to come, to build, to integrate, to enhance, and to partner, to to basically create the best education solutions and the best, experience in our platform, particularly in the Canvas LMS.

So you can keep going, Sid. So let's talk about a couple things that we're working on right now. And, we do have Kara Merault, Kelsey Zielinski, who are product managers on our team to join us. They can, you guys feel free to chime in anywhere that I missed something or if you wanna answer questions. And then Sarah Cornelius is our, product marketing, leader and expert, to work with partners, and so they are all joining us here today to make sure that we're answering your questions.

So the first way that we want to, and for those of you that were at the partner summit, we did talk about this a little last year. So right now, administrators and educators can find your product in a bunch of ways. They can go to EduAbCenter that's located in Canvas and on the web. They can, find you, you know, through your own promotions and your own websites and things like that. And then Learn Platform joined the family about a year ago, and Learn Platform a library of over ten thousand tools that products can also be discovered.

What we wanna do is we wanna unify that, and we wanna make it as easy and visible as possible so people can discover your tools in a variety of places, but in a unified way, that's a lot more, cohesive than what exists today. And so we are working to, powered by the learn platform library, we are working and Kara and her team are working so hard, to make sure that there's a one stop shop, essentially a replacement for EduApp inside of Canvas, where administrators can discover those LTI tools. And that's LTI one point one and one point three. So all the tools, and making sure that they have the information, the details, the profiles, the integration resources, and all of that in one place. And so they can really see what those tools are and then have a one click moving toward a one click easy to install, process once they make that decision.

So, Sid, I think what do we have after this? I think we've got a video that Kira prepared to show what this is gonna look like in Canvas. You can go ahead and play it. This prototype shows concepts of a new admin menu of all the extensions available within the Canvas LMS. This page will allow administrators to discover different types of LTI tools from our providers they may wish to install in their Canvas accounts. Once installed, administrators will be able to see a list of all their installed extensions, where they've placed them and within Canvas, the type of LTI version, who installed it, and can manage this list of partner tools from right within your administrative menu.

Whether through the discover experience or managing a tool they already use, administrators will now be able to see tool level information powered by learn platform. Here we're seeing an example of Nearpod where this listing highlights this listing shows descriptions and images as well as additional information the partners like you can add into your tool listing, allowing you to customize the information that you hope Canvas users will see and find about your tool. Now available is the ability to add integration details and resources and documents all about how your tool can be leveraged within the Canvas LMS. Learn platform also helps to highlight additional evaluations that your tool has earned through badges and images. Excellent.

And, Kara, thank you so much for that, video. Kara, before I move on, do you is there anything more that you'd like to add about this? I think just what I wanna make sure is clear is that each, provider who creates an LTI tool has a listing, in our learn platform library and then has the ability to edit their description, add those images. So it really gives, the tool providers the ability to kind of highlight and market the tool the way that you want to inside of Canvas to the administrators there. Excellent. And we will talk about how you can do that.

And, we also will be distributing, the recording from those so you can view it as well as a PDF version of the presentation that we've got, and so you'll get an access to all the links and everything afterwards, so no need to take furious notes. Alright. And then the other way we're gonna make your products even more visible is we are, basically going to be replacing the EduWebCenter with a more modern public facing, library of all of the, all of your products, in an easy to discover, easy to use, publicly available view. So everyone can see all of the tools tools that are available within the Instructure learning platform and the partners that, fuel that. And so that's going to be coming after the, embedded library that you just saw that and her team are working on.

And so we'll, continue to update you on these great ways that, you're gonna be able to see your products come to life and increase visibility. You can keep moving, Sid. Alright. And so there's a number of things that we are also working on to advance integrations and the way that your integrations work, particularly support for LTI one point three. And I think you all know, that LTI one point three, LTI Advantage is the latest and greatest, standard that many of you, have worked really hard to create in the industry as the most secure standard.

And I I don't think think I need to probably preach to this group the importance of having tools on the latest and greatest standards. And we know that, institution administrators are sometimes even making decisions not to adopt and continue to use tools with older specifications, because they're just not as compliant and not as secure. And so we do need to do our part too so you can move your integrations if you've got older ones, and you can build and and make sure that that's as robust as possible. So, Sid, you can keep going. So the first way that we're doing that is our team has been hard at work with, developing dynamic install your tools.

And so from your perspective, the benefits of DynamicReg is really just making sure that, you know, the registration of your tools, is all on one page, and we've reduced it down to four clicks. So making it as easy as possible, really reducing the burden of documentation and support demands from your team. It's already been released in beta. Many of you are probably already aware of that. Some of you actually partnered with us to help make sure that we're working out the kinks.

And, yeah, definitely, Kirk. And we do have a release announcement, and so Alexis Nast is our product manager who works, really hard on this with her team, and she did produce a release announcement for details. And so it's gonna be generally available April twentieth. And so if you're curious to learn more, you haven't been aware of this, you're thinking about utilizing this, we would love to talk to you. You can keep going, Sid.

Okay. So with that, we, Kira in the video hinted at you know, when you look at the new way that tools can be discovered in Canvas, we are also there was a little button that I think we didn't highlight, which is an install, the tool button. And so once, once the user does that, we are working on streamlining the process. The current process right now for for administrators can often be multiple clicks navigating away from the Canvas interface to your interface to grab, keys and secrets and details. And so using dynamic reg and using the new process, we're bringing this, into one place, into a streamlined process for administrators.

And so we're gonna be look collocating those older tools together with one point three tools accessible on a single page. And then, Ashley Dennis, our super talented designer, grabbed a couple screenshots of some of those things that you will be seeing. We would love in our future, open office hours to highlight this process for all of you. So for those of you that are interested in seeing the nitty gritty details, we would be happy to share that in an upcoming office hours. You can keep going, Sid.

And then I just wanted to give a nod to where we would be going next. So expanding our support for LTI one point three, we know top of the list is supporting, asset processor, submission review, helping to migrate content for you those of you with content, making sure that all of that content has a seamless migration as you're building your new, LTI integration so you can upgrade your customers more seamlessly, and then supporting things like core course copy. And then beyond that, we know that we hear from many of you things like, I really think we need additional placements inside of Canvas. I would like more flexibility. I've got some AI tools.

You know, we've heard from many of you that are developing your own bots, and I want placements for those, for those AI bots, to be in various, additional locations, both for the students as the as well as the teachers. And so we are working on an AI framework to give you plugins and give you additional, flexibility and tools that you can, expand your current integration. So we're really excited about what's coming. I was actually just in Salt Lake earlier this week, with some Tiger teams focusing on how we can accelerate this and get this to you as quickly as possible. So we're gonna be talking a lot more about that, all the way up until and at the partner summit, coming with InstructureCon this summer.

So you can keep going, Sid. Alright. So next, I did wanna just talk a little bit about this is a network that we're here, with. You know, we work together with institutions, with us, kind of through the platform, and to facilitate. And so I wanted to talk about a couple things that are really important for our shared customers and the administrators.

And one of them, is solving the problem of, well, what's really getting used? And so, Sid, you could kind of go on. So one of our main focus areas that we have too is to empower, administrators with, LTI usage data and analytics so they can really be managing and optimizing the adoption, of your tools. So there is a little bit of LTI data, as you know, for Canvas admins today, but it's not to the level of detail that they really want. They really wanna know what was launched, who was launching it, when did they launch it, in which course, in which part of a course. And, you know, am I actually getting the adoption that I want, or where can I provide additional professional development or support, or engage with the the partner to, you know, make sure that I'm optimizing the use of the tool? And so we are working, to get enhanced, LTI reporting as part of what we're calling Canvas Insights.

And, this is just a little bit of a a preview of what that's going to be looking like, and we're gonna be announcing that and launching that, this summer in beta form. Alright, Sid. You can keep going. And then with that, we also have some teams working behind the scenes and doing some deep discovery because that's great to enable the institutions to have, usage, deeper launch and usage data, about your tools. But we want you to be part of that, part of that conversation and also be able to access data that you don't have today.

So one of the things that we're doing behind the scenes is to give, to enable a tool ID. And, so to ensure that a tool is a tool is a tool, and so when we're re reporting on usage data in various places that we know that there's a source of truth. And so that's a little bit of a foundational element that, Kelsey and her team are working hard on, and we're calling that a global product ID. And you can imagine there's a little debate about what is a product, and, you know, how discreet is that. But we are working through that, and I think we have a really good, view of that.

We're also, of course, Kara already hinted at, making sure that we're building a partner portal for you. So we're gonna be leveraging the learn platform provider experience, and morphing that into a thing called the partner portal. So you can log in if you haven't already, and you can manage your product profiles. So we will walk through a little bit of that, how to in just a minute. And then we wanna research needs to figure out how do we, provide you with the EdTech insights, the adoption tools, and the data that you're looking for so you can manage and optimize adoption and work with those institutions.

And so Kelsey's gonna be doing, together with Karen Odom, our other product manager, doing a little discovery and research, and she'll so we're gonna give you ways to engage in that as well. So we're doing a little bit of previewing of where we're going into the future, but a lot of really exciting work, on data analytics and enabling everybody to to improve, products, to improve adoptions, and to really engage more deeply in the platform than you can today. Alright. You can keep on rolling, Sid. Okay.

So one of the key areas that we also talked about is we really wanted to improve and open up communications. You told us, you know, we feel like there's a little bit of a gap. We don't know who to go to. We don't feel like our voices are heard as often as we need. We don't feel like you guys are considering the the needs, and the integration needs and the product needs that we have.

And we don't have great visibility into your road map, And we wanna know what you're working on and where you're investing. And so we're working on ways to make that better. So I already mentioned that we are, launching a provider, partner portal. We're gonna be leveraging the learn platform experience for that. And the first thing you're gonna be able to do other than establishing your login, which is really easy, you're gonna be able to find your tool and update your profile.

And so, we do have in the next page that we will send to you a link that you can actually go out, and it'll be a step by step user guide to figure out how to add your descriptions, add your resources, and enhance your profiles for your products. And so they're looking exactly the way you want them to be looked. So you can keep going. And, yeah. So, this is just a call to action, you know, to, you know, definitely consider implementing dynamic registration, claiming your page in that partner portal, and adding the relevant documentation.

And this is the slide that you're gonna be able to find that link both to the site to establish your login as well as the user guide on, how to if you need that on how to proceed. Alright. And then, I think I can't remember where I was gonna hand it off to you, Sid, but I can certainly talk about this and maybe hand it off to you on the next one. Sounds good. And so awesome.

So Sid mentioned that we did a a product partner office hours. Jody Sailor and I, and Dave, hosted that last week, and that's just a time monthly that we wanna offer to to all of you and your teams, a time to come and chat with us. We will be guiding those with agendas. The developer relations, person that we're gonna be hiring is gonna be hosting these every month and just making sure that topics that are most interesting to you get covered and that we invite in the experts who know who can answer your questions and hear your needs, directly or or at those, sessions. So super important that we see the participation, so we keep doing these.

We're gonna try monthly at the moment. And so if you wanna sign up for the next one, you'll get the registration link to sign up for those and participate. And then, Sid, I'm gonna pass it off to you. Perfect. Thanks so much, Chrissy, for all the informative updates.

Really exciting to see a lot of these developmental efforts. I mean, I'm most excited about the partner portal to have better communication with all of you to ensure that we're able to stay in touch, understand some of the developmental efforts that are going on. But that's all to say that we're around. We're gonna be all across the US, and I'll be all across the globe, speaking of partners, everywhere to understand what is most important to you all. So please feel free to come and find us at these different events.

Right? So I know that we had a a good contingent of Daniel Van Hoff's team at South by Southwest last week or two weeks ago. Christy, myself, and Sarah are all gonna be at ASU GSB in San Diego later this year. But all that to say, there are a lot of events, and we'll probably have exhibits at each of these events. And even if we don't, we definitely want to collaborate with you all to get feedback into how things are going, whether that's your integration capabilities into Canvas, whether that's the value of some of the integration offerings that exist, or how the partner program is going for you all in general. Right? We wanna create a system that is supportive of the different endeavors, and we know that when we come together that we're able to deliver better value to our end users.

And that's what it's all about. Right? Delighting educators and learners in more, in better ways. So very excited about that. Please please do come to those events. And the most important event of them all, obviously, is InstructureCon, which we love all of you that have attended in the past and hope that you'll join us again this year.

A reminder is the I don't know why that's not on the slide. My bad. But it is the ninth through the eleventh of July. It is in Las Vegas. There are additional sponsorship opportunities still available.

I know many of you that are on the on on the webinar are already participating, But this is a great way to kind of showcase some of your solutions and reach a very broad audience where we have over twenty five hundred attendees, mostly, US oriented, which is, you know, good and fantastic for for those of you that are in the US. But we typically do have some global partners, but we'll also be hosting some global events, in Barcelona, Melbourne, as well as Manila later this year that we'll tell you about in a future webinar. But if you have more questions about some of these sponsorship opportunities that exist, email Melinda. Her email is listed there. And once again, we'll share this deck with you.

But I will shout out that we have a lot more options to choose from from a sponsorship mechanism this year than we have in the past, being able to sponsor things like our game night or hack night, having dedicated meeting space that you can meet with customers on-site at the venue, all great, arenas and avenues for you all to explore. So you have questions, once again, reach out to Melinda. But beyond that, we definitely encourage you to attend our second inaugural or annual inaugural second annual partner summit at InstructureCon. This is happening the day before InstructureCon, as it was last year. It will be an afternoon filled with deep insights into some of the work that we're doing on the platform side of the house.

You'll have exposure to our executive team who will attend again this year to help you understand some of that vision and identification of where we're going as a company and an organization. You'll learn about more where our product road map is headed, to understand some of those lanes of where our development efforts are are occurring in general. So all of you are invited, particularly your partnership leaders, your execs, your product leaders. We wanna make sure that this is an open forum and venue for you all to be able to engage and and learn a little bit more about the value that you can derive from from our partnership as well as the direction that we are headed as a business. So thank you all.

Wanna end on some key takeaways. Right? Firstly, we're here to support you, and we're investing very heavily to ensure that you have that outcome. Right? It's very clear, and, hopefully, it's clear after the last thirty five minutes, that we're here to support you. We wanna hear from you. We wanna collate that feedback.

We want you to please go claim your product profile in the partner pro in the partner portal. Please make sure that you do that because there will be a lot more updates that come through that arena. Please attend the partner summit on the eighth of July, and we will be sending out a partner survey shortly, to share your feedback on partner needs that will be included in the deck that we share out. So you can link to all the great stuff that Christy and team have included in this deck. So with that, we will answer questions that come in through q and a.

It looks like we've got a few. Let's see here. Mike, many Canvas integrations use the ability to upload JavaScript in the Canvas custom theme. How do you envision these types of integrations fitting into the LTI centric deployment architecture and tool listings? Also, any changes in the works around this ability to incorporate JavaScript into the Canvas theme or changes to the RCE that might impact these kinds of integrations? Christie. Yeah.

I can take that one. Thank you, Mike, for the question. A couple things. Number one, the library of tools does not need to be specific to an LTI centric deployment. Actually, at the office hours, we got a a question as well, which is, hey.

I'm only using API. I'm not using LTI. And so, you know, we actually take data from Canvas, and our solution is more of a data and insights, product. So can we be in the that listing too? So the answer is absolutely yes. You can also go to the partner portal, set up your profile, claim your page, be part of the library.

We are gonna need to figure out how we convey to administrators the nuances of these different kinds of solutions. You know? How can you use these? How do you you know, what is the solution, and and, how do I utilize it? And so we'll continue to kind of evolve, the descriptions to be clear about that. And then the specific item, I don't have an answer for you yet, but just know when I was in Salt Lake, there was a lot of discussion about, ideas and the short you know, there's a lot of needs, you know, particularly evolving around the RCE, and expanding our integrations capabilities. And, and so more to come on that, but I don't have a great answer for you today. But But thank you for the feedback, and I'm definitely gonna bring this back to our product team.

He said I know we had a couple of other questions that we answered in the q and a. Yes. And one question that did come up in the q and a that I wanna this session is being recorded.
