Hi. Mike Maguera. I'm the EdTech director of Del Sol University. And, I'm really notorious on, speaking Taglish in Canvas cons. No? So again, for the Instructure team, I beg the indulgence to speak in Taglish. No? Paki translate na lang for the Filipino team.

No? My topic for today is benefits of non academic use of Canvas. What are we actually doing? I'm not really revolutionary. I'm not really sure. You probably would think that this is common sense. No? I didn't expect that we can't expect that we can't do this.

But probably they would thought that it's something that would help you. No? And that that's good. Other than, of course, having Canvas, the usual course enrollment, classes, maraming tayo mga pready pang magamit sa Canvas. And actually my goal after this very short talk is maisip niy nak pwede palayon, pwede palang gawinin yung ogano. Try natin yun.

So hopefully, sana meron kayong mabaho dito sa short talk ko. Some of the use cases that I would like to share to you today is this one, two, three, or five, eight use cases. Student elections, academic advising, announcement courses, institutional surveys, student organizations, departmental faculty courses, practicum, and thesis, and research groups. No? Kanyo mga use cases na sa na aikwede palak no? Nagamitay niyong the usual na pagami jo na Canvas. Let's start with student elections.

No? And of course, not just for the sake of using it, but at the very least, or at least, sa na, help us become more efficient and effective in managing our universities. Let's start with student elections. We have twenty eight thousand students in Delasan University Manila alone. Tapos ginawana nam siya. We tried it out.

What we did is what why why why I really like this is because when we use Canvas for student elections, no? Propety palayo. We got the highest historical voter turnout. Natin pag nag nag So precedes. Ang isang college meron silang isang course. At yung course na yun, meron siyang section saloob.

Yung section saloob na yun, that is actually what represents their ID number, batch number. At kada isanon, kala, for example, this one was last term, one two three three. Meron kaming, So we have a survey, you cannot send them targeted reminders. Earlier, niy ba yun, yung send messages to those that have not submitted. Per diyon.

So yun ng capability ng graded survey. Next is academic advising. What's the academic use? Well, this is not a typical academic use of teaching, but this is something that I personally, initiated in our college. What we do is sa engineering kasi namin napakahirap. No? First sa pakahirat engineer.

Where what's ng engineering dito? Miron? Miron? Paysay sa? Okay. Binaban tayan namin ang lahakang sujianti? Right from the start. So what I told is, what I did is I requested I requested I requested the director of the office. I requested the office of the edtech office to create a course. Nga sujante, I mga academic advice.

And then every term, natin. So now, rather than a physical booklet, na digitize na namin siya. In the same, Another, use case that we do is announcement courses. Ito so brang flexible to. So brang flexible.

In anos koto salatong departments, we are opening requests for you to for us to create for you announcement courses, whatever you like. I think whatever you like, nayon. Some colleges, some departments would like, just one announcement course for all our students. Some departments would like, per program, So but because we did this and we make it very flexible, since It made them more effective. It made the departments was able to reach the students effectively, efficiently, very targeted.

Another use case is, student organizations. Kasing na nabagit tanina no? One of the things that is great having an LMS is make it as a one stop shop portal. And usually pag student organizations, natin na natinapasinyan. Some would even block no? That notifications specifically for the evaluation office. And then we set a we set a quiz reminder that for them to evaluate.

At least yung lalaba sagan. Lalaba siyung sa to do. Na to do sa a lower right. And that's actually one of the strength of having course specifically for reminding them to do a task. Usually, what they only get in most surveys, yung magpag Google forms lang sila, they only get what about? One hundred responses.

You know how many they got when we use Canvas for the survey? One thousand. At least one thousand respondents. Towing evaluation office na mihi, sir. More than enough data for us to to see if this is really good or not. Kung pinapagawa namin na list ng bagong granted attributes.

Another, of course, and there are other departmental needs, and this is my department, Manufacturing Engineering Department. Any course? No? You can request your IT office any course for your specific use case. Another thing, which is really non academic, ito, which is actually something that I'm exploring with our HR department, is tracking employee progress with Canvas credentials. Even the free version would do. No? Even the free version would do, at least for a start.

You can assign badges for certain professional trainees that you give to your employees. No? Pwede namang wala. Pwede namang wala. But, you know, there is still something inside of us that wants to, you know, to gamify things. No? You can track professional progress of your employees.

But there's a catch and this is something we learned the hard way. For an optimal course size, it needs only to be three thousand to five thousand students or users inside. We learned this the hard way because when we did the reminder courses, buo twenty eight thousand students in just one course. Hindi lo mo baslihat ng responses. No? Hindi naglogo Okay.

Okay. So, we're gonna have to do this. So, we're gonna have to do this. K?ang nagandana? You keep it in separate colleges, separate departments, separate batches, para sure na go magarasya. And again, summarize all the things na paksimplitiba? And, of course, not just for the sake of maximizing Canvas, but to make our jobs easier, to make communication easier.
