Newington College & Canvas - Education Technology that Just Works
Our experience with our previous platform was that it was very hard work for teachers to use and and it limited students in all sorts of ways. So we wanted to focus on tools that would be very simple to learn and understand. We wanted the sort of platform where teachers could, of their own accord, just go and explore and discover new features and new ways of using the tools. In comparing different management systems, we stumbled across Canvas, and the first thing that lit our light bulbs in a sense was was the ease of use. And it was unbelievably easy to use, and so it was really a no brainer for us. Well, it just seemed to work.
Before using Canvas, we were really an uphill battle a lot of the time just in in fighting the technology part of things as opposed to just building our content. I've been really excited to actually be able to do that now without having to focus on technology. It's a lot simpler to use. We knew we didn't want to be in the business of hosting a learning management system ourselves. We didn't want to be thinking about the technology, but instead, using it as a lever, as a springboard if you like, to think about, new ways to, engage students.
The ability to step inside your classroom in the middle of a class and add URLs and embed videos and, rearrange, even rearranging the order of content in a module while you're standing in front of class. I think that allows Canvas to be invisible in a sense. It allows you to continue with your teaching and learning without having a program interrupt your flow, and I think that's I think that's unparalleled.
