Canvas by Instructure and the Utah Education Network (UEN) today announced that since launching their collaboration to bring the Canvas learning management system (LMS) to all of Utah’s public K-12 districts in the fall of 2017, more than 90 percent of Utah’s K-12 districts (38 out of 41) have begun using the open, easy-to-use LMS.

"It’s heartening to see so many districts and schools throughout the state use Canvas as a means to improve the student experience, whether in a large classroom in a city or a small, rural school,” said Dr. Laura Hunter, chief operating officer at Utah Education and Telehealth Network. "Every Utahn deserves equal opportunities to education and as active participants in the state's Digital Teaching and Learning Initiative, we are pleased to see this collaboration’s early success."

Canvas and the UEN have a long-standing commitment to improving education in the state of Utah. In 2010, after a competitive RFP process, UEN selected Canvas as the LMS for its statewide educational programs. It also negotiated consortium licensing to provide Canvas for all Utah public institutions of higher ed and applied technology. Last year, Canvas was selected as the LMS to empower all Utah K-12 school districts and charter schools with valuable tools to accelerate digital teaching and learning.

“Providing equitable access to education throughout the entire state and so deeply within both K-12 and higher education means that more lives can be improved by education,” said Hilary Scharton, vice president of K–12 product strategy for Canvas by Instructure. "As a former educator and a parent with children in the K-12 system, I applaud the state’s rapid adoption of Canvas and believe we will see great strides in learning as a result."

Canvas provides quick access to digital resources, facilitates the delivery of personalized learning and helps teachers with administrative tasks such as centralizing assignments and resources. It further assists students and parents by providing simple, intuitive tools in a central location so students and teachers can easily access things like real-time chats, audio and video messages, collaborative workspaces and course updates by email, text or social media.

Canvas is accessible anytime, anywhere, and on any device making it easy for parents and students to check attendance, track grades, and stay in close communication with teachers. Its open platform makes integration easy with a district’s other technology resources.

Utah teachers recently shared their thoughts about using Canvas, detailed in this infographic https://blog.canvaslms.com/en/canvas-statewide-school-solution
