This morning we announced that Instructure has entered into an agreement to acquire Certica Solutions, an industry leader in K–12 assessments, item banks, and learning analytics. With this addition, the Canvas Learning Platform will offer all of the tools educators need to drive student outcomes—bringing LMS, AMS, assessments, and data analytics together into one seamless learning experience.
This acquisition underscores Instructure’s continuing commitment to students, teachers, and families and their evolving needs. Take a look at the following to understand why this addition to the #CanvasFam makes my high-school-teacher heart really excited for the future and how it amplifies the Canvas mission.
Teaching and learning first. Always.
Helping teachers and learners to be successful is a passion of mine. Add onto that, if you know much about me, you know that I’m a bit of a standards nerd. With this acquisition, the Canvas Learning Platform will continue to be open, reliable, and built for instruction, so teachers are better able to make learning personal for every student. Our platform will deliver a seamless teaching and learning experiencewhile still providing districts with the freedom to connect with their existing tools.
Instructure acquired MasteryConnect in 2019 as the first step in creating a platform built for teaching and learning. The acquisition of Certica is the next step in delivering this vision for K–12. I believe this also builds on our vision for K–20. We want to see students being successful throughout their entire learning experience.
Don’t just collect data—put it into action.
Schools and districts have no shortage of data. But, with multiple disparate sources, it’s difficult to put data into action. With this acquisition, the Canvas Learning Platform will deliver the most important data when and where educators need it.
Videri, Certica’s powerful analytics and dashboard solution, provides a complete picture of each student’s assessment, performance, grades, attendance, behavior, and social and emotional well-being by bringing data together in one place. With hundreds of teacher-ready reports and configurable visualizations, teachers have insight into how they can meet the unique needs of their students and address them early and often. Standards-based assessment data, including that gathered in MasteryConnect and through Certica benchmark and formative assessments, can be quickly leveraged to inform instructional next steps, ensuring students are progressing in their mastery.
Assessment that actually benefits students.
A teacher’s ability to identify what students know and don’t know has become even more critical due to the disruptions of in-person learning in 2020. Teachers need immediate formative, standards-based insights to address learning loss and close gaps.
As alongtime partner of Canvas and MasteryConnect, Certica Solutions has built a sophisticated approach to K–12 assessment by creating a high-impact program of tightly aligned item bank content, predictive benchmark assessment, and rigorous formative assessment. Whether teachers are using the Navigate or CASE Item Banks to build classroom formativesor districts are delivering CASE Benchmarks, the insights garnered from the assessments can be used to immediately inform instruction and target interventions.
We look forward to welcoming Certica into the Canvas family and to see how it will drive teaching and learning. As we approach the close, stay tuned for what this acquisition may mean for your teachers and students.
Keep learning,
Melissa
