We are excited to see you at Educause this year! Now more than ever, educators and administrators like you are eager for insights on what’s next for higher education. And where that conversation is happening, Instructure will be there.
Leading up to our Educause presence, we released our third year-over-year global study, The State of Student Success & Engagement in Higher Education. Feedback from over 7,500 students, faculty, and administrators in 23 countries help illuminate what student success and engagement means in higher education’s new normal.
Insightful data from our study align well with the Educause Top IT Trends of 2022, “The Higher Education We Deserve” including how placing students’ needs at the center of transformational strategy will propel institutions forward and make them future-proof. With a keen eye on higher ed’s trends, we are excited to share Instructure’s Intentional Innovation with you this year in Denver.
Evolving Definition of Success
Our survey shows career readiness continues to be the benchmark of student success with skills-based learning rising to the forefront of the conversation. Two-thirds of respondents consider competency-based education the most important factor for students (63%) just ahead of data to support student/course success and outcomes based education (both 60%).
Teaching and Learning Transformation
The pandemic fundamentally transformed the higher education experience and showed us even more than ever that learning can happen anywhere, for anyone. This metamorphosis of the definition of the higher ed experience brings with it increased awareness and acceptance of virtual learning models. Based on our 2022 results, two-thirds of students want to take some courses fully online after the pandemic and three-quarters of faculty want to teach some courses either fully online or a combination of in-person and online.
In fact, according to our research from 2020 - 2022, students’ preference for online learning increased 16%. Students are demanding more convenience and flexibility in their learning journeys and faculty technology development must continue to evolve to meet the demand.
